What is Search Engine optimisation?

SEO is the process of driving more traffic to your website using search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, ASK etc. Most people don't look beyond the first page of search engines when they search, so in order to drive the most traffic to your website you have to get your website onto the first page of all the major search engines and preferably the number one spot. Search engines rank websites in order of relevance to what KEYWORDS a searchers types in. The most relevant website to that search will be put on Page 1, number 1 slot where everybody can see it.

Take Google for instance, Google have OVER 250 different factors they look at in order to rank each website called 'the Google algorithm'. Nobody knows these factors bar Google themselves and they would never tell anyone as this is how they make a lot of they're money. However, SEO can be simplified down to this.......In any industry, whichever website ticks the most boxes of this criteria, gets the number 1 slot.

Some of the Factors Google look at are more important that others. The written content on your website must contain the keywords that people are searching for, which other websites are linking (recommending) your website, The title that you give each of your web pages are some of the most important factors. In the more competitive industries you will need to tick a lot more of the criteria on your website than a niche market as more companies are looking for the number 1 listing.
